Weekly Thought Mar 26 – Apr 2: “Most High”

THE WORD FOR THIS WEEK IS: “Most High”.

The thought for this week is: God Most High is our shield.

Have you ever known someone who left the church because they just did not feel like they got anything out of it, got bored and just haven’t been back? Maybe that someone is or was in-fact you. It is difficult for even the most committed Christians to remember that genuine worship is not about “getting”, rather it is all about “giving”. We give God our praise, adoration, time, money, and honor. And, in doing so, something special happens. Our needs are met too and an abundance of blessings flow forth from God.

In Genesis Chapter 14: 17-24, we read about Abram and how when he heard that a group of enemies had attacked the city of Sodom and had captured his nephew Lot, he knew something had to be done. Abram gathered a band of trusted friends and family and pursued the attackers. After a stunning victory, he recovered everything that was plundered. As he returned a representative of God Most High met him and blessed him. Abram fell down in worship before a God of such power and mercy. We note that the representative of God is Melchizedek. A man called both a king and a priest of God Most High.

Go back through the text and mark the four occurrences of the title “God Most High”. What does this name convey to you about God’s character and actions? Now, what does the fact that God is “God Most High” mean as you consider your own personal life in things such as your career, your relationships or important decisions in life.

David wrote Psalm 7 in response to a similar attack. One in which an enemy assailed his character and reputation. He asks “God Most High” to rise up in his defense and promises to sing praise to the Lord Most High when he is delivered by God’s power. Read Psalm 7. Do you think you could compose a similar song of praise of your own situation to a God who rules over your life?

Pray through the following Scripture and strive to memorize Psalm 7:10, “My shield is God Most High, who saves the upright heart.”

Prayer: Father in heaven, we once again bring praise to you as our God Most High. We ask that you would give us a deeper sense of your majestic reign as Sovereign King. We also ask for a willingness to submit our heart to your authority. You truly are my shield and I ask for your continued blessings In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
