The Word for this week is: “Shield”
The Thought for this week is: God is our Shield.
At least 15 times in the Old Testament God is described as “our Shield”. God said to Abraham, “Do not be afraid, Abram, I am your shield, your very great reward.” (Gen. 15: 1.) Later David praises God and says: “The Lord is my strength and my shield, my heart trusts in Him, and I am helped; therefore my heart exults, and with my song I shall thank Him.” (Ps. 28:7.)
When I have God as my shield:
(1) I am not afraid. (Gen. 15:1.) Knowing that God protects me casts out any fear that I might have. (Rom. 8: 31-39.)
(2) I know He will protect me from my chief enemy, Satan. (Eph. 6: 16.) Paul tells me to take up the “shield of faith with which you will be able to extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.” (Eph. 6: 16.)
(3) I know He will reward me (Gen. 15: 1) with His Presence (Heb. 13: 5-6) and His Strength (Eph. 6:20). What more can I ask?
This week memorize and pray through this Scripture: “The Lord is my strength and my shield, my heart trusts in Him, and I am helped, therefore my heart exults, and with my song I shall thank Him.” (Ps. 28: 7)
Prayer: Father, we pray that you will fully protect us today from evil people, evil thoughts and from Satan himself. We dare not rely on our own strength in this world of corruption and sin. We need You as our constant Protector and Shield. In the Name of Jesus. Amen.
