Weekly Thought 6/11-6/17: Peace

The Word for This Week Is: “Peace”.

The Thought for This Week Is: Peace with God is being one with God.

As we finish the day and prepare to sleep for the night, uneasy thoughts bombard our minds. We want to sleep and rest but our responsibilities and problems fill our mind. In those anxious moments, you would love to just have some peace. Have you struggled through those stressful moments, wondering why your mind can’t let go and rest?

As a preparation for this study, read II Samuel 19 and 20 about Sheba’s rebellion against King David. First, note how serious David considered the rebellion to be. Also, notice how God turns Sheba’s rebellion around to restore peace in Israel. Now read Psalm 4. Why did David write verses 4 and 5 and why would it be important to remember in times of distress and conflict? What can we learn about David’s relationship with God in verses 7 and 8? Why did His relationship with God give him peace?

Considering the many enemies of David, even his own son, it is hard to imagine him getting a good night’s sleep. Yet, David knew he could rely on God for his safety and peace. This was a direct result of his faithful walk with God. He was committed to obeying God and keeping his focus on Him continually. Thus, David had peace, even in the worst of situations.

Do you long for a deep abiding peace? The type of peace that allows one a good night’s sleep? To do so, you must “be transformed by the renewing of your mind”. (Rom. 12:2)

Pray through the following Scripture and strive to memorize John 14:27, “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”

Prayer:

Our Father in heaven, we ask for the kind of peace that comes from a close relationship with you. Thank you for being our Father, for strengthening us in those difficult times in our life and for transforming us through the renewing of our mind. In Jesus’ Name we ask this prayer, Amen.
