The Word for this week: “Speaks”
The Thought for this week: God speaks powerfully to us today.
The first verse of Genesis revealed two qualities of God: God is eternal and God has tremendous power to create. The third verse of Genesis chapter one reveals another quality of God: God speaks. “Then God said, ‘Let there be light’; and there was light.” (Gen. 1:3.) Our eternal God chose to let us know Him by His speaking “words” (symbols). Also, God uniquely made us in His image with the ability to speak (use words). No other created being, only humans, can communicate by speaking “words”.
God has revealed his incredible power through the spoken word. At least nine times in chapter one of Genesis, God created marvelous things by “speaking” them into existence. When God spoke, things happened. Throughout the Bible, God’s spoken word is full of wisdom and power. (Psalms 119:105; Luke 4:32; Heb. 1:3, 4:12.)
God expects us to listen to His word, honor it and be humbled by it. When we do listen to God and humble ourselves, God promises to hear us. (II Chron. 34:27)
Memorize and pray the following two Scriptures this week: “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” (Psalms 119:105.)
“For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.” (Heb. 4: 12.)
Prayer: Father, we thank you that you have clearly communicated Your Will to us through words that we can understand. We especially thank you that Your Word became flesh and dwelt among us leaving us an example to follow. Help us to listen intently to Christ’s Words which will someday judge us. In Jesus Name. Amen
