Weekly Thought Jan 1-7: “God”

January 1-7, 2017

The Word for this week: “God”

Thought for the week: God is eternal.

“In the beginning, God . . .”  (Genesis 1:1) These four words introduce us to God Himself.  “In the beginning . . .” This phrase of Scripture tells us that God entered our world of time and space.  We count history by years, but God is “from everlasting to everlasting.” (Psalm 90: 2) He has no boundaries.   He sees the beginning of life and he sees the end.  All history on this earth is but a speck within God’s view of eternity.  The concept of eternity baffles our minds since we mark time by our birth and our death.

The amazing thing is that God made man and woman to have fellowship with Him now and for eternity.  We were made in God’s eternal likeness with a soul designed to live with Him for eternity.  Jesus prayed, “This is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.”  (John 17:3).

Let us memorize and pray Paul’s words of praise: “Now to the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen.” (I Tim. 1:17)

Prayer:  Father, we praise you for being our eternal Father. We thank you that you created us with the capacity to live with you forever. We are so grateful that you gave us the very best gift possible, your only Son.  We are very thankful that Christ was willing to die that we, through our obedient trust in him, may have the joy of spending eternity with You.  In Jesus’ wonderful name, Amen.
